Why can't I run a council?

ThinqBits does all its reasoning on your own device, which means it needs a device capable of running Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence switched on.

Check, in order:

1. iOS or iPadOS 26 or later — Settings → General → Software Update.
2. Apple Intelligence turned on — Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri. If it's off, ThinqBits shows an "Open Settings" button that takes you straight there.
3. It may still be preparing. The first time Apple Intelligence is enabled it downloads and readies itself, which can take a while and needs Wi-Fi and charge. Try again a little later.
4. Your device may not support it. Apple Intelligence requires recent hardware. Apple maintains the current list of supported devices; if yours isn't on it, ThinqBits can't deliberate on it.

If none of that applies and it still won't run, email us.

Either way, you can still see how it works. On any device, tap See a sample council to walk through a complete, pre-recorded council — the debate, the live collision map, the blind spots, and the principle it produces.

What's free, and what costs money?

Your first council is free — the whole thing, start to finish, no payment and no card.

After that, ThinqBits is a subscription: $4.99 per month or $34.99 per year, and new subscribers start with a 14-day free trial. Prices are in US dollars; your local price is shown in the app before you subscribe.

Subscribing covers everything that puts the model to work producing something new:

• Convening new councils, as many as you like
• Reconvening a past council when the facts change
• Patterns — the read across everything you've kept
• Distilling a new mental model from a council

These are never locked, subscription or not:

• Reading every council you've already saved, and its collision map
• Your decision journal, and recording a decision
• Marking which objections turned out to matter
• Your saved mental models and your Thinqer Packs
• The sample council

We won't lock you out of your own record. If a subscription lapses, everything you've built stays readable.

How the free trial works

The trial is 14 days, handled by the App Store. A few things worth knowing:

• You choose monthly or yearly and confirm with your Apple Account. A payment method is attached up front, but nothing is charged during the trial.
• At the end of the 14 days it renews at the plan price unless you cancel first. Cancel any time during the trial and you are not charged.
• The trial is one per Apple Account, across both plans — not one for monthly and another for yearly. If you've trialled ThinqBits before, you won't be offered a second one.

How do I cancel?

Cancelling is handled by Apple, not by us:

Settings → your name → Subscriptions → ThinqBits → Cancel Subscription

Or from inside the app: Settings → Subscription → Manage subscription.

You keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for.

I'm already subscribed but the app is asking me to pay

Tap Settings → Subscription → Restore purchases inside the app. That re-checks your Apple Account and restores access. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple Account you subscribed with.

Your subscription works on all your devices signed into that Apple Account, at no extra cost.

Switching between monthly and yearly

• Monthly → yearly takes effect immediately, and Apple refunds the unused part of your month.
• Yearly → monthly takes effect at your next renewal date; you keep yearly access until then.

Both are done in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

Where is my data? Can I get it back if I lose my phone?

Your councils live only on your device. There is no account and no cloud copy, which is what makes the privacy promise real — but it has a genuine cost we'd rather be upfront about: if you lose the device or delete the app, that record is gone, and we cannot recover it for you. We have no copy.

You can share individual mental models and Thinqer Packs out of the app to keep them elsewhere.

How do I delete my data?

• One item — delete any individual council, decision, model, or pack in the app.
• Everything you've built — Settings → Reset and start from zero. This permanently erases every saved council, your decision journal and calibration, your saved mental models, and everything the app has learned about how you think. It cannot be undone.
• All of it — delete the app. Its entire storage goes with it.

The app declined my question

ThinqBits is built to argue with a position you're weighing. Some questions aren't that, and it will tell you so rather than pretend — a factual lookup, or something it judges better handled elsewhere. When that happens it usually offers a way forward, including taking the question to a general-purpose AI instead.

It will always decline questions about crisis, self-harm, or clinical and mental-health matters, and that is deliberate. A council of arguing perspectives is the wrong tool for those, and we would rather refuse than do harm.

For anything clinical, please speak with a qualified professional. ThinqBits is not a substitute for one, and it isn't trying to be.

What is a thinqer? A collision map?

• A thinqer is one perspective in your council, coming at your question from a specific angle.
• A council is one full deliberation: five to seven thinqers arguing about the position you staked.
• The collision map is the live picture of where they clash — who's in tension, who converges, who builds on whom — so you can see the disagreement instead of reading a transcript of it.
• A mental model is the one short, reusable principle you choose to keep from a council. Kept principles come back to argue in later councils.
• Calibration is the loop that makes the rest worth doing: once you know how a decision actually played out, you mark which objections turned out to count.
